Mildred Martin

Mildred Martin is a Dakelh Elder currently living in Fort Saint James BC, Canada. She is a Residential School Survivor, a linguistics teacher of the Nak'azdli Dakelh dialect of the Carrier Language and is currently one of the last remaining truly fluent speakers of her traditional language. Mildred is a master hide tanner, buckskin worker and beader and still uses all the traditional brain and smoke tanning methods. She has also acted as the Elders President for the Carrier Nation for many years.
